Friends, a Chairde,
Wow!
Everyone remotely interested in Ireland and things Irish ought to check this article out!
An Irish-language film nominated for an
Oscar. Basically, the Oscars per se have always been useless in terms of
actually choosing a good film, infamously skipping over famous movies. (Citizen Kane being a notorious example of that.) But they do garner attention for a film! I've not
seen it and cannot speak to its quality, except for online previews,
such as here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7V-kDz4NWg
It looks lovely and poignant, a family film, indeed. No dicey moden-day quasi-porn madness, at least. So, this is good news. An excerpt from the article:
Competing for best international feature, "An Cailín Ciúin" (The Quiet Girl) last year became the first Irish language film to gross more than 1 million euros ($1.06 million) at the UK and Irish box office. It has remained a fixture in cinemas across English-speaking Ireland.
